Auteur Titre: Meyraguet Accident Report - in ENGLISH - Date
Dr Jerome Meynie -------------------------------------------------------------------
With the autorisation of the "Procureur de la republique " of Cahors, who investigated the accident of the two cave divers that happened 19 November 2003 at the "resurgence" of "Meyraguet" commune de Lacave (46), here are the results of the gas analyses of the airbell between sump one and sump two (the place of the accident).

Sample of the 20.11.2003 17h45 :

N2 ................... 86.8 %

O2 ................... 8.8 %

CO2 .................. 0.97 %

H2O - H2S - H2 - CO - CH4 < 0.0005 % for each of them

Sample of the 21.11.2003 11h45 :

N2 ................... 87.3 %

O2 ................... 9.2 %

CO2 .................. 1.01 %

H2O - H2S - H2 - CO - CH4 < 0.0005 % for each of them

In the water of the sump there was no dissolved gas or organic substances.

Due to the sampling method, the oxygene level is probably inferior to the one that has been analysed (+- 1%).

The low level of oxygene explains fully the accident that happened to the two swiss divers.

The divers' tanks contained 21% and 28% of Oxygene.

The goal of this message is to spread this information as much as possible to avoid a similar accident happening again, so please forward it to anyone who you think might benifit.
