The Puits de la Breme is a significant resurgence in the region, and is
interesting as it also acts as a sink in dry weather. Downstream is
blocked with boulders, causing the level to rise by 10 - 15m in flood.
JV had visited this cave a couple of years ago in poor conditions and
found an upstream line a short way in, however on diving, this was
found to be only a short section. The visibility was poorer than
expected (at 1 - 2m) and the initial way upstream was through a massive
boulder choke. This was negotiated with care, joining together bits of
old line to provide a guide for the retreat. Once through the choke,
longer pieces of line were found in big tunnel and progress was easier.
JV scootered to the air bell at 700m, where another choke was
encountered. further route finding & re-lining took the diver to the
900m mark, close to the end of the known cave, however it then took
about 1.5 hours, in poor viz, low flow and large passage to locate the
continuation. The cave at this point consists of a low and wide bedding
with large slabs on the floor to squeeze over, under and between.
Eventually, the diver found the flow in a descending rift. Laying line
down this, the end was located at -30m and JV continued on. The cave
continued to descend and at -45m, narcosis became a problem. JV
struggled to tie off, then made an uneventful return. The mapper was
used on this dive and the results were encouraging. Meantime CRH and MF had dived to varying distances upstream, but had
turned before thirds, opting not to trash the viz too much for JV's return.
Le puit de la Brême est une résurgence majeure de la région et c'est intéressant car il se comporte comme un siphon en période sèche. L'aval se termine sur des éboulis, ce qui provoque une élévation du niveau de l'eau de 10 à 15m lors des crues.
Il y a quelques années, John Volanthen a exploré cette cavité par des conditions médiocres et il a trouvé un fil dans l'amont. Cependant, lors de la plongée, il s'avèra que ce n'était équipé que sur une courte section. La visibilité était encore plus mauvaise que ce qu'on pouvait imaginer (1 à 2m) et le passage amont initial traversait un gros éboulis. Il fut traversé avec précaution en raboutant les les morceaux d'anciens fils afin de sécuriser le retour. Une fois passé l'éboulis, il y a une grande galerie avec des morceaux de fil de plus grandes longueur, ce qui facilita la progression.
JV progressa au scooter jusqu'à un nouvel éboulis. Le plongeur atteignit la marque des 900m, proche de l'ancien terminus, après avoir trouvé la continuation et refait l'équipement A cet endroit, la cavité présente un lit bas et large avec de grandes dalles sur le sol où il va falloir se faufiler en passant dessus, dessous ou entre.
Le plongeur finit par trouver l'actif en descendant dans une fracture jusqu'à -30m et JV poursuivit. La cavité continue de descendre jusqu'à -45m et la narcose devint un problème. JV du lutter pour faire l'amarrage avant de faire demi tour et ressortir sans incident. Lors de cette plongée, un mapper a été utilisé et les résultats sont encourageants.
Pendant ce temps, Charlie et Martyn sont allés à différentes distances et ont fait demi tour avant leur tiers afin de ne pas dégrader la visibilité pour le retour de John.
